Welcome to Primrose Cottage

Primrose Cottage offers charming self-catering holiday accommodation in the heart of medieval Sandwich. It is perfectly suited for a quiet break for a couple or a family with older children.

The cottage is just two miles from the sea and an easy walk from the mainline rail station. It is a grade 2 listed building, dating back to around 1625. Despite its age, guests enjoy up-to-the-minute facilities. The cottage offers comfortable two-bedroom accommodation for up to four people. Garage parking is included, approximately three minutes walk away.

We are dog friendly. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement and there is plenty for canine visitors to do. Please see our Dogs Invited page for more information.

Sandwich and Area

Sandwich is one of the ancient Cinque Ports, which supplied ships and men to the British navy in the Middle Ages. Among its many attractions are narrow streets with half-timbered houses, the river and quay, historic gardens and a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs. All these amenities are right on Primrose Cottage's doorstep.

The town looks prettier than ever since the launch of Sandwich in Bloom in 2018. The lovely floral displays are multiplying as the project builds up to entry into the South & South East in Bloom contest.

Boat trips may be taken from the quay: up the River Stour to Richborough Roman Fort or downstream to spot seals in the bay. Or you can stroll the Old Town Walk to see the former moat and ramparts.

Unspoiled Sandwich Bay is a must. It is a few minutes' drive or, alternatively, a picturesque 40-minute walk across the famous Royal St George's golf course. It was the venue for the British Open 2011 golf tournament and will host again in 2021. Nature lovers can visit the bird observatory, which welcomes guests.

Ideally situated for a relaxing stay on the Kent coast, Sandwich is just a dozen miles or less from the castle and white cliffs of Dover, historic Canterbury, the North Downs area of outstanding natural beauty and the seaside towns of Deal, Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs. For a longer day out, take a direct train to London or why not hop across the Channel?

All being well, cottage holidays will be allowed again from 12 April. We are therefore taking bookings from that date. Just in case, advance payments are safeguarded. For details, please go to our Booking Your Holiday page.

To protect all cottage users, we've carried out a full risk analysis and implemented a number of precautionary measures. Regrettably, we need to do remote handovers during this period rather than the customary "meet and greet". We are sure you will understand.
